The Avengers

Positive:
By far the best Marvel movie ever. Not only did they think ahead & get it right with the characters (minus Edward Norton), but the small parts & cameos by the likes of Stellan Skarsgard, Gwyneth Paltrow & even Natalie Portman via photo were unexpected & great. This is the 1st Marvel movie where it felt like the characters jumped out of the comic book pages & onto the screen. 10 STARS

Negative:
Samual L. Jackson will never be Nick Fury. Nick Fury is a cigar chomping, mid 40s, gray haired WHITE MAN.

Hawkeyes costume. They nailed everyother character & just quit on him. Putting someone in black leather doesn't make them the character they're supposed to be portraying. Big fail, just like in the X-Men.

Little confused are you happy about the lack of Edward Norton or not happy about it? Hoping you're happy on it cause I think Mark blows Edward out of the water in terms of being Bruce Banner. Edward Norton wasn't a good fit for the role. Mark plays the role perfectly and I think he's even a better fit overall with the entire group.

Avengers is a fantastic movie and I am glad as hell they are already going to start working on a 2nd one. Also looking forward to another Thor, Iron Man and I believe they're even doing a 2nd Captain America.

As for Hawkeye's costume.....part of the problem is it looks too much like he's just regular old SHIELD and not one of the heroes of it. He blends in too much with the hired guys of SHIELD and doesn't stand out like the rest do. Maybe for the 2nd they'll change it up.

I'm actually slacking on movie watching and got no reviews beyond Avengers. Been busy re-watching House lol

Mark did an excellent job as the Hulk, but I'm a stickler for details especially when it comes to comic book movies and the Ed Norton Hulk was the lead in to the Avengers so it would have been nice to see the same character. I can live with Mark but not with Samual L Jackson.

This is what Hawkeye should look like.

Two quick points.

1. You will never see Hawkeye wearing that costume in a movie. Ever. It's purple, it has a skirt, and it has a pointy mask. Never, ever ever. Sorry. Just get used to the fact.

2. I will take a good actor that doesn't look like the original character over a shitty actor that has a particular skin color. Do you think John Goodman would have made a better Kingpin than Micheal Clark Duncan, too? Sorry, but Samuel L. Jackson is a good actor, appreciates the character, and is a big enough name to get people's attention, but is low enough on the totem pole to not want huge amounts of money. He's good for the role, and the movies in general.

Re: Movie reviews 11 months, 3 weeks ago #109786

Unfortunately true about the Hawkeye. So Marvel & DC should just make movies about characters that aren't in costume? STUPID!!!!!!
The Punisher without the skull on his chest is no more than just Charles Bronson in Death Wish. The costume IS a big part of the characters.

If Samuel L Jackson appreciated the character he never would've taken the job.

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS
I loved it. But did anyone catch when the old man at the beginning said his son was 71? Granted, we assue he was a senior in college, maybe a year with the circus in 1934, a year later they have their first child... That makes him, like 94?

They could put Hawkeye in a costume if he had a costume that would translate better to real life, which he frankly needs anyway. Mix a little bit of the classic costume with the current Ronin costume he wears, and boom goes the dynamite. Keep the H shaped harness that holds the specialized arrow heads, but instead of going to the weird little skirt thing, have it just go down to about mid-thigh. Keep it black leather, but accent it with yellow, just like Hugh Jackman's Wolverine jacket. No mask, since they've already established that he doesn't wear one. There. Done.

Re: Movie reviews 11 months, 3 weeks ago #109822

That would work although its still kind of lame for the comics industry to say costumes won't translate to the big screen. Loki didn't look stupid with the horns on his head, Captain America didn't look stupid, neither did Daredevil or Spider-Man. Most of the action is done with computers so they can't say the costume would get in the way. I'd love to see a Spider-Man movie with Mysterio or Electro but they wouldn't do those characters justice.

Avengers was awesome I'm not big on comics but I did like it.

Saw Snow this weekend and it sucked and quite frankly so did Stewart. At least I scored because I sat through it without bitching how bad it was.

I saw Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and I thought I was pretty good. Deffinately worth the $4 early bird admission. Kinda like Jeffery said, I thought it was cool how they incorporated actual events from Lincoln's life into the movie and added the vampire twists. I don't like how movies keep changing the rules when it comes to weaknesses and strengths of the monsters but I guess I don't make the movies so it's not my decision. But all in all if you have any kind of imagination and you're into the vampire craze you'll dig this movie!
