TOPIC: Movie reviews

Re: Movie reviews 1 year, 6 months ago #103874

I liked Xmen First Class, too. But, I'm a sucker for all the X-men movies. I know they're not "good", but I like them anyway. Guilty pleasure. I don't read the comic books, so I don't really have any expectations. I can understand, I can't watch a Stephen King moive without dumping my popcorn and walking out in a rage, (except maybe Shawshank Redemption I think they may have improved it)

You're right- Super 8 is the sci-fi Goonies and I loved it just as much, maybe more. I heard someone say it was the "best movie Steven Spielberg never made"

I just met someone who has never seen Goonies. My jaw literally dropped.

I know this is movie reviews but I just started Season 1 of the Walking Dead. It's much better than I expected. 3 episodes in and I'm officially hooked.

I just ordered The Changeling (the 1980 horror movie) off half.com. I can't wiat to re-watch and see if it's as scary as I remember it being as a kid.

Oh if you ever see the preview for a movie called Rec 2 and think "hey it doesn't look bad let's rent it" and then you further figure you might as well get Rec 1 and watch it...DON'T! It's originally the Spanish version of Quarantine but dubbed over in English. It's horrible. But it's literally Quarantine. A news reporter following a fighter crew, called to a building where an old lady is going insane and so forth. As bad as Quarantine was...this was worse. We didn't even try to watch Rec 2 cause it was so bad.

You're certainly entitled to that opinion. I just disagree. I liked them showing Xavier as going after the ladies; not always being so freakin' perfect all the time. I liked Magneto being so cold blooded in South America. I liked the lead up to Beast, even though all the ads ruined it by showing you he'd eventually turn blue (not that we didn't already know). I especially liked the ending, and how it pissed all over the Wolverine movie.

Id take Wolverine over X-Men:First Class....

I'm no movie critic. It's gotta really suck for me to not like it. I thought all of the X-Men movies were great, especially Wolverine and First Class.

Watched Red State this weekend because I was looking for a horror movie and it was highly rated in the horror section of NF. Maybe a thriller. Not a horror movie, but it was really good. It's a Kevin Smith movie, but it's not his usually silly comedies. think Westboro Baptist meets Waco meets Manson Family. A little political (Red State!?) but not overtly. You have to know what you are looking for to catch it.

I couldnt care less who told him the movie sucked. His grandmother could have told him that she thought it sucked...That doesnt mean anything to me,I liked it and thats all there is to that.

Re: Movie reviews 1 year, 5 months ago #104535

tis the season to see lots and lots of movies so here it goes...

Immortals-
If you liked the 300, you'll like this. Lots of gorgeous half naked men. Gratuitous violence. Every frame of the movie is perfect- visually stunning. This sums it up- "If you're going to mess up Greek mythology, I guess you might as well make it pretty."

Tower Heist-
Funny movie, not terribly memorable, but good for a diversion. Eddie Murphy is back in the game. My son loved it. But, I really think Casey Affleck should get out of the business. Bleh.

Puss in Boots-
Movie was so-so. I loved Puss in the Shrek movies, so it was worth watching. Not as funny as Shrek, though, more of a western-adventure. I hated Humpty, though. The voice, the character. ugh, almost ruined the whole thing for me. At first I thought it must be really good because I was staying awake, but then I finished my gummy bears and dozed off. Turns out the gummy bears were really great. But, really a fun kids movie, it didn't make me want to slit my wrists.

Hugo- Well shot, great use of 3-D, again visually stunning. Good story, but, not exactly what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised. History mixed with a children's fable.Trivia: Martin Scorsese's first feature film in seven years not starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

In Time-
Just an excuse to have an entire cast be young and hot? Acting was so-so. But the mix of future sci-fi and old technology (old cars, phones) was fun. You can't see much here that wasn't in the trailer. Reminded me a lot of Gattaca, but not as good. Great idea. Poorly executed. It made me want to read the book it was never based on. LOL

Red Riding Hood - okay now this might be cause I went into the movie with low expectations but it wasn't that bad. It was an interesting twist on the fairytale. Not saying it was a great movie but I've seen worse.

Cowboys & Aliens - an interesting movie. Weird concept being the whole wild west but yet aliens are there to collect gold. Kind of funny at times to see "James Bond" battling "Indiana Jones" lol A little interesting since it did turn into Cowboys & Indians vs Aliens lol It's okay for a DVD rental.

Hopefully sometime this weekend I'll get the chance to see a new movie. Right now debating between Mission Impossible, Sherlock Holmes, Devil Inside and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. We'll see which one wins out to go see.

Ok so over the weekend I watch a movie on NetFlix that was actually quite good.

Dale and Tucker Vs. Evil.

Funny actually pretty well done for a Horror Comedy. Kind of put a comical twist on the killer in the forest type slasher movies.

Went into this movie with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

Two thumbs up
