I agree about Devil. Thought it'd be worth with Shamalamadingdong producing it, but it was decent. I saw the ending coming, but it was still done well. Could have been MUCH worse!

Re: Movie reviews 1 year, 9 months ago #102926

I actually kinda liked Devil, too. Especially since I was disappointed with most of his other movies. The end was predictable, though. I really think they missed an opportunity not going for the worst title ever and calling it Devilator. Or Evilator.

Saw 'Bridesmaids'. Worst. Movie. Ever. Note to self, never spend 15.99 on a hotel movie rental based recommendations of the girls at work. I was really hoping for better.

Anyone see 'Paul'? I tried to watch it chuckled a few times and passed out. Is it worth re-renting?

Re: Movie reviews 1 year, 9 months ago #103010

I liked Paul but it's one of those that you gotta be into that dumb humor like Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. I got a fair amount of laughs out of it. Ending wasn't too bad.

I wonder with Devil though if going into it with such low expectations helped enjoy it a bit lol. Kind of like if you go into watching a movie thinking it's going to be so awesome...you usually end up disappointed. Regardless M.Night did redeem himself a bit with it.

It's an older movie but 15 Minutes with Robert Deniro is pretty good. Deniro is a hot shot cop who at times has news reporters following him. It all takes an interesting twist when these two guys from like Russia and the Ukraine (I think that's the countries) come to the US and basically start trying to make some money/become famous by filming some murders.

Limitless with Bradley Cooper...it was an okay movie. At times it just tried too hard to be strange. It's the movie where he takes the pills that supposedly help you use more of your brain. Wasn't bad but wasn't great either.

Hall Pass - pretty good movie. Had a lot of laughs in it. All I've gotta say is fake chow!

The Thing- Cheap thrills, mediocre story, but the graphics were worth seeing on the big screen. Forgettable movie, but It was entertaining and a decent date night movie overall.

Dream House- Not the ghost movie I was hoping for. I guess I should have watched the preview. I knew within 20 minutes 'who did it', but they were trying so hard to generate suspense and create clever unexpected twists it just turns into a weird convoluted waste of time. I feel like it had potential to be better but it just fell flat.

Real Steel- I really thought this was going to be live action Rock'em Sock'em, but it was much better than I thought it would be. It turned out to be a cute little underdog story. My son loved it. Stupid and ridiculous but I loved it anyway.

Haunting in Connecticut- I love scary movies and ghost stories. This one was fit the bill. Pretty cliche scares. It had a decent back story and the acting was good. It had suspense and some good boo moments. I was really interested it because it was 'based on a true story', but as usual I was disappointed. Aside from it being a funeral home and the son possibly having cancer that's where the similarities end. The real family sounds so crazy they could have written a drama about them.

Since I've seen the other Paranormal Activities, I will going this Friday to see the latest installment.

I hope to be able to give a good report.

Hall Pass - Pretty decent

Yeah Hall Pass was pretty decent and not too bad for some laughs.

Rec 2 which is the follow up to Quaratine - better than the first. Not too bad for a Netflix rental.

I'm still torn on the new Paranormal. I mean I'll go see it since I've seen the first two. It's just going to be weird with them now trying to go the Bloody Mary route.

Paranormal Activity 3 - I liked it. Thought it does the series some justice. Thought it was better than the 2nd one. And oh...for those fearing that the best scenes were in the previews...trust me they aren't. I will say they definitely left the door open if they wanted to continue the series.

Wasn't PA3 supposed to be a prequal?

Redboxed X-Men First Class last night. Good flick, certainly better than The Last Stand or Wolverine. Changed stuff from the comics, but I usually don't have a problem with that as long as it doesn't effect the integrity of the characters, and it is important to the plot.

It's is. Just like PA2 was a prequal to PA. But they still left the door open to be able to further go back with the story. Trust me if you see it you'll understand why I say they left the door open to continue it.

I thought X-Men: First Class pretty much sucked

You're certainly entitled to that opinion. I just disagree. I liked them showing Xavier as going after the ladies; not always being so freakin' perfect all the time. I liked Magneto being so cold blooded in South America. I liked the lead up to Beast, even though all the ads ruined it by showing you he'd eventually turn blue (not that we didn't already know). I especially liked the ending, and how it pissed all over the Wolverine movie.

Re: Movie reviews 1 year, 7 months ago #103855

I thought X-Men First Class was pretty good.

Super 8 - it's an interesting movie. Although it truly is the sci-fi/alien Goonies. Even almost down to the fact that at one point it's the fat kid wearing the yellow jacket like Chunk. The kid wearing almost a denim jacket like Mikey. Although in a way they did kind of combine Mouth and Data into one a bit.
