Okay after going back 12 pages and not finding the original thread I decided to recreate this one. Feel free to post reviews on movies...good or bad. Doesn't have to be ones out in theaters. It can be older stuff.
Iron Man 2...I liked it. I thought it was a pretty good story and good action-wise.
This one isn't out yet but the new Karate Kid movie...definitely a good movie. I know fans of the original are already partial haters because "it's a remake". Well first...there is no Mr.Miyagi in this. Jackie Chan isn't playing Miyagi. Sure he is playing a character that is a bit like Miyagi but there's ways the 2 differ. Basically yeah they took the original storyline and tweaked it a bit. So yes you get one kid being bullied and he gets trained by the old karate master and ends up kicking some ass in a tournament even after being injured. But if you go in with an open mind for this movie you'll be surprised. The theater was about 50% littl kids (10 and under) and it was quiet the entire time. That tells you a movie is good. Even towards the end everyone was getting into the movie and cheering when the bad guys were getting their asses kicked. And Jaden Smith...wow, I was impressed with his role/acting. He very possibly could follow in his dad's steps (Will Smith)
I have to say, when I heard this was being redone, I was a hater. HOWEVER, I saw an extended trailer at the theater, and I liked the way it was changed. Its the same, BUT very different. I want to see it, and I have the feeling its going to be great.
IRONMAN 2 - Well, I need to see it again. I went to the Drive in, and it was out of focus which really sucked. The dialog was funny, the action good - and it didn't take itself too seriously which is where some comic movies kill themselves. If you like the first one, you should really like this one too.

Trust me I was kind of nervous about the Karate Kid because I thought it was a pure remake with Chan trying to play Miyagi and so forth. Then I was more nervous when I saw that Will and Jada were 2 of the producers so I thought ugh Jaden got the part because mommy and daddy are producers. But the kid can act. I mean there were seriously times I looked at him and was like damn it's like watching a young Will Smith. It was always interesting to see Jackie Chan play such a different role than his normal action roles. I'd be very shocked if it doesn't hit #1 for 2 weekends in a row. I'd give it 3 weekends but unfortunately it'll have to deal with the next Twilight movie in its 3rd week out.
Eh sorry but I don't see Last Airbender beating out Twilight for the top spot that week since the 2 open the same week. Twilight has enough of a following that they can start pre-selling weeks before.
So you're saying that this can't beat out a movie with a demographic of middle aged housewives? (Just poking fun - but Twilight does only appeals to teen girls through middle aged women)
Looking at numbers, the entire Twilight franchise started in 2005 (when the book was released). However, The Last Airbender is the adaptation of the Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender which had debuted on February 21 2005. Both franchises have been out for a long time, and each having their respective (and very large) fanbases.
Twilight: Eclipse has been given $65 million dollars for that movie alone, while The Last Airbender has been given $250 million dollars total. Being the trilogy that it is, that means that The Last Airbender (this first movie) will have used at least $83.3 million dollars. Money might not mean a lot in the overall quality of the film, but, my goodness, Industrial Lights and Magic are the gods that are behind The Last Airbender, and ILM has done some pretty good stuff (Star Wars IV, V, VI, I, II, III, Star Trek (originals + revival), Signs, Pirates of the Caribbean, Transformers, Iron Man, and Avatar).
Avatar: The Last Airbender has won several Annie Awards and was critically acclaimed. Avatar: The Last Airbender was originally introduced for a child - teen audience, both boy and girl, and extended to every demographic. The animated series covered just about every genre out there, and appealed to a mass audience.
And in the long run, it's not who does best opening weekend (though that certainly helps) but it's who holds up longer in the theaters. The Twilight franchise does well opening weekend, but has in the past dropped a substantial amount after it's first week (ala Iron Man 2, which dropped 58.6% from its blockbuster opening. And, it's really who makes the most total, not always, but most of the times.

I'm not saying The Last Airbender won't be a good movie but the fact is I doubt it'll hit #1 the weekend it opens because of the Twilight following. You forget with Twilights demographics you get a lot of husbands, boyfriends, dads taking someone to the movie to make them happy so it's not just females that go see it. Actually I even know some guys who are into it. We weren't debating who would do the best for the longest amount of time. We were talking about what movie would hit #1 that weekend. Cause if you had read the conversation at first it was talking about how Karate Kid will probably hit #1 the weekend it opens and manage to stay #1 the next week but after that it'll lose out thanks to Twilight opening up. Budget for a film doesn't mean ANYTHING. There have been films that had almost no budget and they go out and make a huge profit. There have also been big budget films that went out and flopped and barely made any profit.
Here's the bottom line...New Moon opened with the biggest opening day in history last year. And that was without adding in the sales from midnight showings. Considering New Moon only had a budget of $50 million and managed domestically to bring in $296,623,634 so I'd say they do damn good for a film that doesn't have some insane budget. And no offense but most movies have a drop-off from opening weekend results to the next week. No matter how good the movie is. That's just how it is. I'd guarantee that BOTH Eclispe and Airbender will have a drop-off from their opening weekends.
I also forgot to add in Airbender is going to have some people skeptical because the director (M.Night) has been so hit or miss with his movies. There's a decent amount of people that hear his name attached to a movie and go UGH because of The Village and The Happening.
I personally don't give two shits about the Airbender movie, but my son is a huge fan of the cartoon, and even HE thinks the trailer looks like shit (my word, not his). I first showed it to him, thinking he'd love it, and he was very offended by it. I believe his initial reaction was something like, "No. No, no, no. Oh, no. Oh, n-- are you kidding? Are you kidding me? Are you serious?? No!!!"

Had to bring back this topic since someone (see above) was sooooo sure Airbender was gonna beat out Eclipse. Let's see....Eclipse broke a midnight release record. It broke the record for a Wednesday opening (knocked out Transformers). It's getting good reviews. Now...Airbender...getting BAD reviews. A friend of mine saw an advanced screening last night and didn't give it good reviews. Said how when the movie was over a lot of the theater booed because it wasn't as good as they expected. If the reviews are pretty accurate...Airbender might have trouble even hitting the #2 spot
I saw the last air bender. I was kinda disappointing. Wasnt as good as i thought it would be. Not to mention its gonna b a trilogy, totally didnt expect that. I give it 3 stars
Well, not sure if my daugher will come out to try to defend herself or not.. but she had been looking forward to this movie for almost 3 years now. I had been too. I've seen the all 60 episodes numerous times - the series is a great series. But M. Night failed miserably in telling the story.
Special Effects were amazing and downright brilliant at times. The Actors are taking a beating in this, but I think its the screen play and the writing that was horrible. There was no real flow to the movie. I enjoyed it, I will watch it again, but I know the entire story, and it was a dissappointment.
AND BigC - this movie has to do well for the other 2 to get made... After watching... I am thinking he may not get the nod for the other 2. And its a shame - my favorite 2 characters show up in the next book!!!
Yea based on what i saw wox, i would be shocked if he got the nod to make the other movies. Its a real shame, cuz i think those movies could have alot of potential

Eh you all should have known not to expect much when you saw M.Night tied in with the movie. He was basically a one hit wonder. He had what...one, maybe 2 good/decent movies and the rest have blown. I mean look at The Happening. WTF?!?? I still say as word gets out more I won't be shocked if Airbender has trouble making the #2 spot. It won't hit #1.
Well, I have to say. I love the Twilight books, but Twilight the movie was... okay at best. New Moon was a definate increase with the new director, and with a few actor changes and additions as well as the insane amount of awesomeness... Eclipse was really good. B+ from me.
Now... I do have to say...
Is anybody as fucking PUMPED as I am for Paranormal Activity 2 and HP7 Pt.1 ?!!?!
