Comics That Everybody Should Read (conveniently collected in trade paperbacks, so it's easy to get the whole storyline).

Preacher (nine volumes)

Transmetropolitan (ten volumes)

Watchmen

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

Batman: Year One

JLA (anytime Grant Morrisson or Mark Waid wrote the book)

Amazing Spider-Man (J. Micheal Strazcinski's run)

Spider-Man: Revenge of the Sinister Six

Wolverine (original mini-series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller)

Just to name a few.

Dragon*Con is like Mardi Gras for dorks. During the day, it's your basic science fiction/fantasy/comics convention. This year they had William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Mike Mignola, Eric Powell and a shitload of other people.

At night, though, it's just a giant party. They have concerts (mostly techno goth bands), an "after hours" costume contest, a burlesque show (that was lame) and just a ton of drinking and partying. It's a lot of fun, if you can discount the fact that I've caught really bad colds the past two years. (Tons of people in enclosed places are breeding grounds for germs.)

If you search on YouTube for Lobo Paramilitary X-Mas Special, some film student or something put together a little ten minute movie based on this comic. The funny part is, the guy they used to play the Main Man is the same guy, Andrew Bryniarski, that I've said they should use for a Lobo movie ever since I saw him in Any Given Sunday.
