TOPIC: So how long is this "epic" vacation?

So how long is this "epic" vacation? 9 months ago #111897

Did I hear them say they will be gone 2 1/2 weeks? Damn. I know Rover doesn't get a long with Bo, but think about it.. I'm sure Bo has a problem with Rover taking such long vacations. 4 weeks in December, now 2 1/2 weeks on this latest one. Never seen a radio DJ in history do that... not even Stern would take 4 weeks at a time. Its Rover taking advantage of his popularity and management probably hates it. I bet he loses a chunk of listeners too who get sick of hear best of for a month.

And Rover made sure to tell people to follow him on twitter to see tweets of the vacation... I'd bet good money they rarely tweet anything. They've done that in the past because they need to "save it for the air" LOL.

Did anyone catch Jeffrey's claim at the end that he was going to be filling in tomorrow? It smells like a Bo putsch to me!

Normally, I would agree but I'm pretty sure it's a contract thing? When they were discussing the contract toward the end of the year, it calls for a couple weeks off of vacation. I guess 2.5 weeks is kind of pushing it, but I'm still kind of a new listener so I don't mind the Best Ofs. It puts me in the loop

I think listeners will get sick of rover after hearing best of for 2 1/2 weeks. And also management prob hates it.

2 1/2 weeks of best of. Yuck!

Re: So how long is this "epic" vacation? 9 months ago #111907

They better have some good stories when they get back!! Rover said they'll be back live on September 10th.

Re: So how long is this "epic" vacation? 9 months ago #111909

haha don't worry guys....theres Lanigan and Malone to listen to

Re: So how long is this "epic" vacation? 9 months ago #111910

Why would management hate it? They're the ones that put all that vacation time on their contracts...

Re: So how long is this "epic" vacation? 9 months ago #111911

2 1/2 weeks of best of...Granted i have missed a lot over the past year do to not having access for awhile but best of gets old seriously fast. I agree they better have some good shit to tell.

Well, if you remember, Rover was off the air for a bit while they were in contract talks. He was probably holding out for not only more money, but also more vacation time. Management gave in just to sign the guy.

And secondly, I'm sure they'd rather him take his vacation a week at a time, versus 2.5 weeks or 4 weeks like he seems to do. They probably lose a pretty good chunk of listeners with Best Of running that long. I'm a perfect example... today, not listening... I have ESPN on instead.

I wish they'd pony up for the older material; I could deal with weeks of best of a lot easier if they had some dare dieters sprinkled in.

Also I really hope they go light on interviews; I almost uniformly hate best-of interviews.

thats the prob with this city, when anything, even the slightest turn or change of events dealing with rover or other show members, people totally flip. It's just a radio show. we have Alan cox, espn, and Nikki sixx, etc, to listen to. what are people gonna do when rover ends talk radio?
Look, I know he's popular, I figured that out when people created a freakin website to vote on keeping Dieter on the air after he made that comment to the caller-in, and like 10,000 plus people madly flock to a tiny pier in the lake, and almost swamp a sightseeing boat to see a few concerts and some girls dance on a stage. But c'mon folks.

Re: So how long is this "epic" vacation? 9 months ago #111920

It's not really about him ending the show though. He's popular, absolutely, but when the show ends I'm sure he'll still be around in SOME way. It just sucks, as listeners, that for 2.5 weeks he'll be gone. For the past couple of weeks leading up to this moment, he's been ending shows early, skipping days because he's sick, etc.

It's just a pain in the ass, is all. I'll happily listen to Best Ofs...they make me laugh and it's nice to be on par with everyone who's been a fan for longer.

Also, Voinovich Park is anything BUT tiny...just sayin.

For those of you who believe this is Rovers last contract, I think you are 100% wrong. I know he's said that this is his last one, but the guy is full of shit. There is no freaking way he's going to give up this easy gig with the 6 figure money he makes, just because he wants to go do documentary films. He would have to be freaking crazy. With Jeffrey and Dumb, there is an endless amount of material for the guy and he hardly has to do any work at all except for run the show for 4 hours a day. I predict he will sign another contract and keep doing radio as long as he can make good $$$$$ at it. Look at Howard Stern... the guy is still going strong.... why? Because they pay him big $$$$ and he'd be crazy to retire.

Re: So how long is this "epic" vacation? 9 months ago #111922

I do think this will be his last contract....but the show will not end. I think he will end up doing his show online to be because terrestrial radio is dieing.
